Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No, and that is not just a promise. The page ships a security policy containing connect-src 'none', which makes the browser block any outgoing connection even if the code tried to make one. Check it yourself: open your browser's network tab while cleaning a file and you will not see a single request.
Does cleaning degrade my photo?
No. Most tools decode the image and re-encode it, losing a little quality each time. KillEXIF removes only the metadata blocks and leaves the image data untouched, byte for byte. Each format has an automated test that fails if a single byte changes.
Why is my cleaned video exactly the same size?
Because that is how you clean a video without breaking it. MP4 files store absolute positions for each chunk; deleting bytes would invalidate them. Instead the metadata is overwritten with padding of the same size. The file staying the same size is the sign it was done right.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Load the page once and you can use it with the WiFi off. It is the clearest demonstration that your files never leave your device — with no connection, there is nowhere to send them.
Why are some formats not supported?
Because not all of them can be cleaned without risking damage. In a camera RAW file, for instance, the metadata is interleaved with the image data and a mistake ruins the negative. We would rather tell you what we cannot do, and why, than hand back your original and call it clean.
Why is my photo rotated after cleaning?
Orientation is stored inside the EXIF block, so removing it leaves the photo in its true physical orientation. Correcting it would mean re-compressing the image and losing quality, so we would rather warn you than do it behind your back.
Do you store any of my data?
None. There is no analytics, no cookies, no telemetry, and no third-party fonts or scripts. The page never makes a single request to an external server.
